Glam Girls: 5 Favorite Things +3 Life Lessons: MrsCapretta

Meet  Romantic and very charming Mrs. C  from MrsCapretta Blog
I love reading her posts. They are full or life and happiness.

5 favorites things :

You know the corny saying that when you least expect it you find love? Well in my case that was true. I didn’t expect to meet hubster (that’s what I call him) but it was the best blessing ever. As we approach our one year of marriage I have learned that it’s one of the greatest experiences.

I come home to my best friend every day and along the way we have learned a lot about each other. Ladies, you’ve got to know now that some things won’t change. The toilet seat stays up, football is priority on Sundays and they won’t magically become phone people over night.

But these things aside there’s a lot of new adventures filled with laughter, some with tears and going on the ride with your partner is the best journey. And if you ever have trouble deciding things (like new sheets or where to go for dinner) the best I advice I can give is “Rock, Paper, Scissors.”

Had you asked me 5 years ago if I would ever be so in love with cooking I would have laughed. My extent of a gourmet meal was blue box mac & cheese with some pepper on top.

Holy moly have times changed!?! Enter the days of my blog with weekly recipes. What? How did this happen? I fell in love with cooking with hubster, entertaining friends and expanding my palate.

{homemade lemon sorbet}

It has been a crazy ride of learning to make homemade pasta and create dishes that work with the seasons. Start simple and challenge yourself. You’ve got to feel a little uncomfortable at times.

What woman doesn’t love fashion? Whether it’s reading other blogs or flipping the pages of magazines or people watching my inspiration comes from all over.

My goal is to find affordable fashion pieces that are fun and comfortable to wear. I’m tall so it’s sometimes a challenge to get creative as what may be a dress to some is a long shirt for me.

I love bright colors, fun prints, maxi dress and lots of layers. Mixing funky finds with classic ensembles is always a great game to play!

Home Design

Being a home owner has found me spending countless time looking for interior design inspiration. We have a very casual home with big couches and I like to create a kick-back place I love to come home to.

It’s fun to mix things up a big like using mason jars as glasses, picking out a funky pillow for the couch (mine are leopard) or keeping that fun flower arrangement that always looks great when you walk in.

My go-to’s for home designs and candles and mirrors. I just can’t get enough! We are in the process of landscaping our backyard and I cannot wait to use wine barrels as our table.

So much of my inspiration in cooking, fashion and interior design comes from traveling. Whether we are off to Arizona for a wedding or on the Italian coastline in the little town of Positano I love to take it all in.

It’s amazing to see other people’s ideas and imagination while infusing some of your own thoughts. I made a lemon sorbet after trying one in Capri. I fried pickles for the first time after tasting them at a Hooter’s in Indiana. I love wearing knitted mucklocks after seeing an old woman wear them on the streets in San Francisco.

There’s so much to see out there! And you don’t have to go crazy. Take a drive to a town 20 minutes away from you and make a day out of it. Go to a park you’ve never been to or a restaurant you’ve always wanted to try.

3 Life lessons :

While there are so many life lessons I could share that I have learned, these are some of my favorites as they deal with the things that I enjoy daily: love, cooking and growing up.

  1. We grow neither better nor worse as we get old, but more like ourselves.” ~May Lamberton Becker
In the past year a lot changed for me. I graduated from college, got married and enter the big world of a real job and career. Along the way some times have been scary and I’ve doubted myself, but I’ve learned to fully love and appreciate who I am. I cannot say every decision has been right or that I am perfect, but that’s what makes this journey so special. As a young woman I have grown, become more confident and love myself more than I ever have. Things are always going to be changing, life will always throw curveballs, but no matter what your love of self must remain. Find the relationships with friends and family of people that strive for you to grow and become your greatest.

  1. Anyone can be passionate, but it takes lovers to be silly.” ~Rose Franken
When anyone asks me about getting married so young (I was 22 but we started dating when I was 18) I always tell them I just knew right away. I had dated a lot of guys and found my hubster was the one person I could fully be myself with. My parents have been married for 40 years and I would asked them what the trick was. “Marry your best friend.” And it’s true. There’s always going to be stress and pressure going on but take the leap of love with someone that makes you laugh at your weakest moment. That is the real test of love, in my opinion.
  1. Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all.” ~Harriet Van Horne
Can we just talk for a second about how I didn’t know how to cook an onion or had never eaten anything on a bone prior to meeting hubster? I’m not a professional chef or anything, but I have fallen into cooking and making up recipes. I’ve always gone full force into anything I do and that has been applied into the kitchen. If you want to learn to cook make sure you like it….don’t just do it to do it because it won’t be fun. Grab a glass of wine and start experimenting.
